The Montague Tie
Upon launching my new collection called Behind Every Tie Is A Great Man, my inspiration came from being amazed how a particular scent, taste, environment can bring us back to a place where our thought wanders back in time. The foundation of the collection is a group of specially selected fabrics each of which have triggered memories of personal experiences. In general, this is a very different approach to design as it were, letting go to a certain extent and allowing emotions to become more involved. Once the fabric is transformed into a tie, the memory is captured and each tie now has its own story to tell. These stories reflect the individuality that each person can bring to the same piece through an expression of their own style.
The personal connection I had with this silk fabric was the initial base colour, which brings to mind the beautiful tones of the sea at Montego Bay, Jamaica. We were only there for a couple of days to visit family and friends, but this was one of my favourite moments besides having a conversation with a Parrot.
Only eight Montague ties were hand made due to fabric availability. Therefore no more ties in this material will be made and once the last tie has been brought it is finished. So that each person will truly own a unique piece of craftsmanship, which caters to their personal style.
Not to mention the Parrot spoke fluent Jamaican patois! Do you remember your first Holiday? Which country did you go to? What happened? Comment below.
